Northeast Invite at Hartford CT.

As January is quickly coming to a close, we find ourselves traveling to Hartford, CT for the Northeast Invite.  I think it would be fair to say that quite a few of our families found themselves caught in a surprise snow storm at some point in their travels on Saturday.  AH, part of the joys of New England winters. 

This year, some people will leave this meet with clanging medals, personal best scores and stories about having to drive in the surprise snowstorm. The level 4s were part of a much more exciting and proud moment for OTW. There is no doubt that the people who run the Northeast Invite have a passion for the sport and the kids. I mean what amazing motivation and joy they share at the awards ceremony. They have also added a Spirit of the Sport award in memory of a Joan Hicks, a person wildly respected at this event. At the level 4 session the announcer starts raving about the team chosen, I feel a tap on My shoulder, it is Coach Becky letting me know he is talking about OTW.  Yes, he is talking about our gym, bu,t he is really talking about one gymnast.  She not even a level 4 gymnast,  It is too bad Hannah E. and her family were not there to be part of the wonderful acknowledgement of what Hannah wrote on her Dream snowflake that won us the spirit do the sport, Joan Hicks award.   Her dream was for a teammate and a friend Katie, a level 4.  Her dream was wish she would find her confidence and believe in herself. She believed her friend was a strong and great gymnast and wished to see her do well and I whole heartedly  agree!   It was by far one of the most memorable moments I have been a part of in this competition world. It is always great to learn a great life lesson from a wicked fabulous kid in our life. We have some amazing kids and coaches at our gym!!

The Northeast Invite team awards is based on taking the top 5 scores, unlike the normal top 3 scores The Level 6 (was actually top 4 scores I guess) and level 3 teams only were the only  2 OTW levels with enough gymnasts to qualify I believe.  AND, BOTH teams brought home a new Team banner to sign and hang in the gym.  Congrats to the level 6 ladies for winning the 3rd place team banner and the Level 3 girls for winning the 2nd place team banner, you make us all proud.

Level 3- Phoebe took 2nd place on Vault and All Around and 3rd place on Bars, Beam, and Floor.  Ruby took 3rd on Bars and Floor.  Anne took 1st on Bars and 2nd on Vault, Beam and All Around.  Emily took 2nd on Beam. Ava took 3rd on Beam.

 

 

The Level 5 ladies had the pleasure of starting off OTW's competition bright and early Saturday morning.  Our ladies never disappoint giving us a solid performance.

Winter Carnival part 2, level 3-9

So last week the Excel team competed in the Winter Carnival Invitational, this week-end it was the JO level 3-9 girls turn to represent Off the Wall.

Level 7-  Jordan took first on Vault and Bars and 2nd on All Around.

Level 6-  Sarah took 1st on Bars. Floor and All around.  Caitlin took 1st on Vault, 2nd on All Around and 3rd on Beam.  Emily took 3rd on Vault.  Alexi took 2nd on bars.

 

Saturday saw the Level 3, 4 and 5 teams show up to Cooperative Middle School in Statham NH to kick off the week-end.  All 3 teams earned banners to hang up in the gym for placing as a team in their sessions.  Have fun signing you banners ladies!  Congrats to the level 3 girls for winning a 2nd place team banner, Level 4 girls for winning a 3rd place team banner, and the level 5 girls for winning a 6th place team banner.

Granite states meet 2013

BRRR.. The Granite State meet in Bow this year fell right on our first big snow fall of the season.  A big thank you to all the parents and coaches who braved some crappy roads for the afternoon sessions.  The girls proved that a little snow could not cool them down, they were fired up an had a great meet.

Coach Becky passed along some great words:
I am so very proud of seeing goals being hit at this past meet. The girls did a great job at working towards them. The coaches have new goals that we will be working towards for the next meet. I'm always a happy coach when I see goals being met. Numbers are great, but they are just numbers.

Please pass on a thank you to all of the parents. I was also very proud and happy to look into the stands and see cheering for all the girls and tons of smiles. That makes my day every time to see happy parents and kids.

FIRST meet of the season, A Halloween Spooktacular Meet!

The level 3s, 4s, and 5s traveled to Dover NH for the Annual Halloween Meet hosted by Tri-Star Gym.
Congratulations to every single girl for posting sectional qualifying scores! Congratulations to  every Level for earning a team award.  This was such a great start to a fun season.

Level 4- Brooklyn 1st on vault, beam, floor and All around, 2nd on bars. Sarah 1st on vault, beam Floor and All Around, 3rd on Bars.  Rya  1st on vault.  2nd on Beam and Floor.  3rd on All around.





The Level 3s started out first Saturday morning.  Our Red Sox fans were super and solid,  With such strong scores it is no surprise they brought home a 2nd place team award.  Way to shine at your first meet!

Don't let the cute Bee's fool you, the Level 5s were really some killer Bee's and took first place team honors in their session!  Always awesome ladies.

Welcome all new people!

First off welcome to all the new faces!  Welcome to our new level 3 (formerly level 4) team members!  Welcome to our Excel team members! And, Welcome to all the new parents.  I figured I should get back in the habit of updating the blog now that the kids are back in school and we are firmly in the routine of fall practices.  We seem to be coasting into the meet season pretty swiftly now,  I hope everyone is ready for the new season and as excited as I am.

Nicole and Jackie headed to Springfield MA to compete in the Level 9 Regional competition.
We are so proud of these girls who have worked so hard all year and are inspiring to all the other girls in our gym.

STATES!

Ready or not here we come.  The compulsory  levels are competing in the New Hampshire State gymnastics meet this week-end at Pinkerton Academy in Derry NH.

Level 6-  Sarah earned a 3rd place on bars and  All Around.  Alexi earned a 2nd on beam and a 3rd on bars.
Level 4-  Grace earned a 3rd place All Around and Rya earned a 3rd place on beam and Morgan earned a 1st place on Vault.
Level 7- Jordan earned a 1st place on vault and bars and a 3rd place all around.

The Level 5's started out the State meet week-end.  Alana & Hannah in the 10 year old division and Lilly in the 7-8 age group were there for a bright and early 8 am start.

Madi and Olivia followed at 10:30 competing in the 9 year old age group.  

All the girls posted personal best Beam scores AND brought home a 7th place team award!

Sunday morning at 8 am Hannah, Sarah, Morgan and Rya started off 3 session of Level 4 competitions.  Zoe and Grace followed at 10:30 and Brooklyn had the coach all to herself for the final Level 4 session.
There were a lot of 9's posted, 3 girls surpassed a 37 All Around score, and 5 girls posted personal best All Around scores.  They managed to place 4th place as team.
